"The nature of astrology is to be archetypally predictive, not concretely predictive."

CURRENT MOON

New Moon in Leo

August 12, 2007

Leo is the sign of the Lion and of the Sun. Lions have always been portrayed in myth and art as powerful symbols of strength, power and light. Mythic heroes such as Orion, Hercules and Samson, all embark on the hero's journey of wrestling with the lion. As the hero fights with the lion, he takes on the qualities of the "Lion Hearted as his own . As the sign of the Sun, Leo is associated with strength and courage. The word 'courage' come from the Latin word for the heart, Cor, and means to take heart . Physically, Leo rules the heart and the blood. Leo is a sign of power and often referred to as the sign of royalty, kings and queens. This reflects Leo's propensity to take charge, to lead, to command. This is the New Moon to take charge and express whole heartedly your creative and artistic fires. If you have had a creative endeavor on the back burner for a while, this is a powerful time to jump start the creative juices.

With the Sun, Moon, Mercury,Venus and Saturn all in Leo, we will focus lots of attention in the area of love and romance. In the words of John Lennon " It doesn't matter how you love, where you love, or who you love. It only matters that you love " ! If you feel lonely or unappreciated this is the New Moon to invoke the love goddess Venus, Aphrodite into your life. Leo is a fire sign that often creates animated, spirited and spontaneous behavior. Leo is also very much connected with Joy. The ancients Egyptians saw Joy as a sacred responsibility. They believed that upon their death, the God Osiris would ask then two questions: " Did you bring Joy ? and " Did you find joy?" Those who answered 'yes' could continue their journey into the after life. For the next month, ask yourself these two questions: Did I bring joy? Did I find joy? Joy will surely find it's way into your life.

You could use this New Moon to attend to and nuture the " inner infant". If you evoke the Leo drama queen type of emotional expression, Saturn in Leo will take a hard look how you respond to others emotionally , especially if you suffer from mood swings. The question you need to ask ,is it possible to love deeply, feel deeply without wreaking havoc in your own life and the lives of those around you. As Saturn gasps for it's last breath in the sign Leo the offering he presents us is learn to turn our grief (Saturn) into beauty (Leo). Think of Saturn in Leo as a Ruby mine open to the gifts of the Sun (Leo).

Venus retrogrades back in Leo on the 8th of this month . When a Planet goes retrograde the energy of that Planet often becomes internalized, turned inward. The glyph for Venus looks very much like a 'hand mirror' and has to do with how we see ourselves and our self image. This Venus cycle is the time to reflect, to review, to reaccess or redefine our relationships with others. The is a powerful healing time emotionally for cultivating and dialoguing with the 'inner lover' and awaken issues surrounding self love . Somehow we've got to realize that Western culture invented the 'romantic relationship". We know the ancient cultures of the Chinese, Russians and Muslims weren't so hung up on romantic love, as we are, expecting all our sexual fantasies ,and other fantasies to be fulfilled by the person we sleep with . Why are we so hung up on the search for the significant other for fulfillment ? It is only by looking within that we can find the fulfillment we are seeking. This Venus retrograde cycle is symbolically a powerful time of healing and renewal. Aphrodite (Venus) the goddess of love renews her virginity each year ritually bathing in the waters of her island home. Like Aphrodite, you may through various rituals and ceremonies renew your sense of intactness, wholeness and virginity . All women need her rituals for the renewal of virginity, for reclaiming female erotic energy, for resacralizing their bodies, and most importantly, opening their hearts.

Many Blessings
