"The nature of astrology is to be archetypally predictive, not concretely predictive."

CURRENT MOON

New Moon in Capricorn

January 8 , 2008
17 degrees - 33 minutes

New Moons are times of new beginnings, planting new seeds and of setting intentions. This New Moon is one of the best for setting goals, initiation and making serious commitments towards achievements. Capricorn's are hard working, persevering and goal oriented. Capricorn defines itself by the work it does and takes great pride and responsibility with their accomplishments. On this New Moon we have the Sun,Moon and Jupiter in Capricorn which can instill confidence and opportunity at attaining our personal goals and objectives. Jupiter in Capricorn says believe in what your doing and be prepared for the long haul. Opportunity come through preparedness !

The degree for this New Moon according to Zodiacal Symbology by Isidore Kozminsky reads: A silver-hued garment lying in the mud. Overhead are the dark clouds of an approaching storm. This Denotes one whose fate is greatly influenced by the acts of others. They will defend their honor by refusing to be drawn into affairs of an unworthy nature. It is a symbol of changes.

Mercury will move into progressive Aquarius on the 8th and conjunct Chiron (wounded healer) on the 15th before slowing down to move retrograde at the end of the month. Positive thinking and words of healing through writing, journaling, singing, chanting is the best medicine and remedy for the wounded spirit . Mercury and Chiron also meet up with Vesta (goddess of the hearth and flame), all in the exact degree (15 Aquarius) on January 17. Healing begins in the home in front of a fire (Vesta) by communicating openly and warmly to our loved ones. Do not under- estimate the power of our words. We all know that words can either be used for healing or for wounding.  As the saying goes, "If your in need of healing, go and heal someone else and ask where have I failed to give?"

One of the wounds that seem to afflict many Capricorns is the wound of not getting what they needed from their parents. The House of Atreus serves as a powerful mythological archetype for Capricorns. Keep in mind in mythology Saturn, ruler of Capricorn, is Kronos who was told by an oracle that one of his children would overthrow him. We know Capricorn (Saturnian types) do not want to give up the their control and authority, so Kronos/Saturn swallows and devours his children. Here we have a portrayal of a Saturn who doesn't want to empower the child (creativity). No matter how long or hard he tries to hold on to his power, he is ultimately overthrown (castrated) by one of his own Sons, Zeus (Jupiter). Repeat after me: Give up and let it go!

Mars is still doing his Viagra thing (retrograde) in Gemini until the 30th of January and goes direct once again. Mars retrograde is the archetype of the wounded warrior, and one of the constructive ways to deal with Mars retrograde is to simply lay down our weapons be it physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. Mars in Gemini or those with Mercury/ Mars aspects are famous for their "foot in the mouth disease", so please think before you speak and look before you leap. My metaphor for those with Mars in Gemini or Mercury/Mars aspects is they have a black belt in tongue karate. With Mars retrograde it's important to stay on your Meds and don't forget to take the chill pill!

One of the most powerful astrological cycles for the year is the Saturn opposition Uranus for the first time in 42 years. The last Saturn/Uranus opposition cycle was around 1965-66 . This was the seeding of one of the most powerful cultural revolutions in our country's history. Masses of people were standing up and against the status quo, questioning government and authority figures and protesting all over the world to help to bring an end to the Vietnam War. There were also huge breakthroughs and revolutions, especially within the music, art and media industry. With Saturn opposing Uranus and with Pluto entering Capricorn on the 29th of January (government) people will in fact demand change of the old existing structures that no longer serve the needs of the people. Large corporations will be exposed for their manipulative and abusive (Pluto/Capricorn) behavior towards workers (Saturn in Virgo). There will be revolutionary breakthroughs in the area of health care. With Uranus in Pisces, universal health care will be on it's way (Saturn/Virgo). It's reality check time! In the words of Crosby, Stills and Nash, it's been a long time coming!

Many Blessings ~
