"The nature of astrology is to be archetypally predictive, not concretely predictive."

New Moon in Aries

March 26, 2009

The New Moon in Aries is about fresh starts, turning over a new leaf, and beginning again. This is the blast off point for the astrological year. Aries is the youngest of the signs and often expresses itself with child-like qualities, a kind of playful innocence with no sense of consequences. Aries is the first of the dynamic fire signs (impulsive) and they do need to look before they leap. Aries says I want what I want and I want it now. This is the New Moon to attack and go after want you really want. Plant the seeds for personal growth and new aspirations for the future.

If the past year has left you beaten down, depressed or wounded, this is the New Moon to start anew. We can re-energize our relationship with our inner warrior/warrioress. The goddess Athena was Aries sister and she presided over strategy in wartime and domestic arts in peacetime. Her strength was strategic planning and she would consistently out maneuver her brother (Mars) on the battlefield and this made him even more furious. Athena was born from the head (Aries) of Zeus and became known as the Goddess of wisdom. Athena is the feminine warrior archetype and she shows that thinking well, and keeping one's head in the heat (Mars) of emotional turmoil is a winning strategy. Athena is the logical woman ruled by her head rather than her heart.

The term 'Warrior' needs to be understood in its proper light. To teach someone to be a warrior is not necessarily to teach them how to fight, but rather how to serve and protect the sacred with Mars in Pisces. There's an ancient Celtic proverb that says, ' You don't give weapons to a man until you've taught him how to dance'. After all Pisces rules the feet! Mars in Pisces asks to have courage and take a leap of faith to act boldly on our newly inspired visions.

The degree for this New Moon (6 Aries) reads from Zodiacal Symbology: A Metal smith in his workshop fixing a silver caduceus. Denotes one of inward understanding. The smith by his craft glorifies the power of love and intelligence, which he cements. It is a symbol of mental perception.

Pluto in Capricorn squares the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus at this New Moon. In your personal life (Aries) and at the office (Capricorn) please put duct tape across your mouth. This is a conscious preventive measure for those who are afflicted with 'foot in the mouth disease'. Keeping a silver tongue will not be easy. Pluto squaring this New Moon suggests power issues could arise with those in a position of control and authority. As Pluto transits Capricorn for the next 15 years, Corporations will go through major changes, transformations and a purging of the good old boy business as usual, or will continue to be exposed by corporate shame. The abuse of corporate power can be seen everyday on the evening news.

Pluto in Capricorn will remind us what structures in our life is working and what needs to be let go, to be eliminated from what's no longer working in our lives. Those with the sign Capricorn highlighted in their charts will surely have their ticket punched for their reluctant journey (rite of passage) into the underworld. Capricorn is the archetype of the King/Queen and never wants to give up his power or authority. In mythology Saturn swallowed, devoured all his children. This implies that Saturn doesn't want to empower his children or others for that matter. Capricorn needs to let go of old attachments from the past (attitude, behavior) and thinking you are the only person of importance. Allow others their feelings of expression as well.

Chiron conjuncts Neptune in Aquarius is excellent for participating in spiritual group activities such as yoga, tai chi, meditation, astrology or metaphysics. This is a signature of the spiritual healer, or can cause confusion about where the pain (wound) is coming from. It may relate to a healing crisis with substance abuse. It also represents the selfless compassionate healer who wants to serve the world.

Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad with power.
The mills of God grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly small.
The bee fertilizes the flower it robs.
When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.”
