"The nature of astrology is to be archetypally predictive, not concretely predictive."
~ Richard Tarnas New Moon in PiscesFebruary 24, 2009 The New Moon in Pisces is in many ways paradoxical. On the one hand Pisces is about endings and letting go, and on the other hand the New Moon is about new beginnings, planting new seeds and the setting of intentions. You might say this is the beginning of the end. Pisces is known as the “oldest sign” in the zodiac and I believe it also contains the most wisdom. With the Sun, Moon and Uranus in Pisces this is an excellent time to celebrate and dance for spiritual awakening. This New Moon is our chance to heal and begin doing at home what must be done globally. The Sabian Symbol for 7 degrees of Pisces invites us to stay true to our beliefs and ideals. "Illumined by a shaft of light, a large cross lies on a rock surrounded by sea mist; the spiritual blessing which strengthens individuals who, happen what may, stand uncompromisingly for their own truth". Currently there are eight planets all in universal/trans-personal signs, The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto. Add the north node then there is nine points activating universal signs. The cosmic message is loud and clear, unification not separation. Time to let go of our over identification with ego (self-centeredness) and dedicate ourselves to the upliftment and compassionate service for the greater good of all. As we create ourselves anew, so we change the world around us. Neptune (ruler of Pisces) conjuncts its discovery degree at 25 degrees of Aquarius. Planetary returns are familiar to most astrologers. Neptune was discovered on September 23, 1846 at 25 degrees of Aquarius and returns to this degree every 164 years. With the return of outer planets the emphasis is on collective levels. The last time Neptune was at this degree we had the Mormons entered Salt Lake Valley, Prohibition Amendment was encouraged by former alcoholic John Bartholomew Gough, Mexican army crossed the Rio Grande beginning of the Mexican/American war, a Boston dentist used anesthesia for the first time, and Michigan became the first state to abolish capital punishment. In 2010-2011 Neptune will conjunct the Moon in the Sibily Chart for the USA. The last time that happened it coincided with the Gold Rush Era where most everyone had fantasies of striking it rich! Unfortunately for many it turned out to be a brutal nightmare. Chiron (wounding/healing) approaching a conjunction to Neptune brings opportunities for spiritual healing through such things as music, dance, meditation, prayer, tai chi and yoga. We can now begin to heal our spirits once we make the shift from victim (Neptune) to creator (Sun), which empowers us to make different choices and create new attitude and experiences. The marriage between Neptune and Chiron calls on us to restore the lost sense of the sacred in our lives. Allow yourself the bath in the healing waters of Neptune through compassion, forgiveness and unconditional love. Real love never, ever requires a response. Just recently transiting Chiron passed over President Obama’s ascendant in Aquarius. Clearly, he has emerged a Chironic figure (healer/maverick). Recently, I learned about the powerful links between the charts of Lincoln and Obama. First, Obama’s south node (karmic ties) is on Lincoln’s Sun. Then, the Sun in Lincoln’s chart is on Obama’s south node. This cosmic reversal may suggest a major spiritual theme operating between them. It could reflect possible reincarnate energy of the same soul. With Lincoln’s Sun/Chiron and Neptune on Obama’s ascendant it does seem as if Obama channels Lincoln’s major life purpose (Sun) to bring about the vision (Neptune) and healing (Chiron) of the union. On March 6th Venus (goddess of Love) turns retrograde at 15 degrees of Aries. Venus in Aries always symbolizes the Amazon (female warrior) archetype. Love is a Battlefield! Venus retrograde in Aries clearly implies the need to focus on self-love. Know that self-love is something that is internally generated, and don’t be so hung up on the significant other for fulfillment. With Venus retrograde we are called to review, reflect and redefine our priorities. Venus goes retrograde (journey to underworld) for about six weeks every 18 months. Venus moves forward on April 17, when she turns direct at 29 degrees of Pisces. From a natal perspective Venus retrograde often reflect a woman’s refusal to accept traditional roles, dare to break new ground. Venus in Aries always reminds me of the song by Stephen Stills "If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with". One last thing I forgot to mention concerning Neptune returning to its discovery degree at 25 of Aquarius. In 1968 the nuclear submarine “the Scorpion” was lost at sea. Even today this is one of the greatest unsolved sea mysteries. On that day transiting Neptune (sea faring vessels) was in Scorpio, the name of the lost submarine. Transiting Neptune was at 25 degrees of Scorpio squaring its discovery degree at 25 degrees of Aquarius. All 99 men on board were lost. According to numerology 99 reduces to number 9, which is said to be a Neptune number?
